A Pakistani Christian man and his wife have been arrested by Pakistani authorities under the suspicion of murdering an American couple.

Honey Haveed and his wife were arrested after the murder of Pakistani-American Arif Khan and Kathleen Khan. When questioned Honey Haveed revealed that he shot his vitims to save his "honour":

"The pastor of a Christian church and his American wife were shot to death in their home in the Pakistani capital, police said Thursday.

The bodies of Arif Khan, a Pakistani-American citizen in his 50s, and his American wife Kathleen Khan, 45, were found late Wednesday at their home in a residential neighborhood of Islamabad, said Munawar Hussain, the local police chief.

Hussain said police had arrested a suspect, Honey Haveed, and his wife, who also were Christians. Haveed said during questioning that Khan had an affair with his wife and that he had shot him "for honor," according to Hussain.

Police were searching for another man suspected as an accomplice." (Source: The Guardian)

As I have stated before on this weblog practices such as "honour" killings are deeply rooted in culture and have nothing to do with religion as this case aptly proves. However the notion that Muslims commit crimes such as honour killings because they are mandated in Islam is a widely held belief. A belief that anti-Islam bigots propagate and use to good effect in their battle on Islam.

Israeli soccer team Maccabi Tel Aviv were on a flight to play Erciyesstor in the Turkish town of Kayseri. A Turkish reporter by the name of Elif Ural accompanied the team and a group of supporters on the flight.

On the flight Elif Ural recorded chants of the Israeli fans cursing in particular the Prophet of Islam and Muslims in general. The film was then censored and not shown on Turkish television after appeals from government officials :

"A serious and potentially dangerous diplomatic incident between Israel and Turkey was prevented Wednesday, after a national Turkish TV channel agreed not to broadcast a video showing Israeli soccer fans cursing the Prophet Muhammad.

The network decided to shelve the tape following appeals from senior government officials.

The video was filmed by a Turkish reporter of Channel 24, Elif Ural, who accompanied the Maccabi Tel Aviv soccer team on its flight from Israel to the Turkish town of Kayseri, where it is scheduled to play against local team Erciyesstor Thursday evening.

A group of fans who were on the plane with the team were caught on video singing songs against Muhammad and Muslims.

Ural, who has been living in Israel for the past three years as the network's Mideast correspondent, was deeply offended by what she witnessed and heard, and by the club's officials' failure to intervene and put an end to the offensive behavior.

"The decision not to broadcast the video was the right one and I don’t have a problem with it," Ural said. "There is really no need to risk relations between Israel and Turkey because of 10 idiots. " (Source: Ynet News)

My question is how does cursing Prophet Muhammed and Muslims show that you support and love your soccer team ?

This is Yair Klein a former lieutenant colonel in the Israeli army. After leaving the IDF Yair Klein founded a "private mercenary company" called Spearhead Ltd. Which went on to train right-wing death squads and drug traffickers in Colombia during the 1980's.

Yair Klein has recently be caught in Moscow on an Interpol arrest warrant and Colombia is now calling for his extradition:

"Colombia is to seek the extradition of an Israeli mercenary, convicted in absentia of training death squads, who has been arrested in Russia.

Yair Klein, a former Israeli colonel, was held at a Moscow airport on an international arrest warrant.

He was sentenced to 10 years for training drugs traffickers and right-wing paramilitaries in the 1980s.

Prosecutors say those trained went on to carry out some of the country's most notorious political assassinations.

"Colombia's government is going to make a formal petition to the Russian foreign ministry, so he is sent here to pay his sentence," Colombia's foreign minister Fernando Araujo told reporters.

The Russian authorities have refused to provide details about Klein's capture and have not commented on the extradition request. " (Source: BBC News)

I wonder how many thousands of people died because of the actions of this man and his "private company".

This is a Live Leak video of American President George W. Bush. It certainly needs no commentary:

I have just realised there is a doctored clip in the video above. I think it is where the President is making his address to the nation in front Congress. I am sure he has never said that he has been trained by terrorists.

Rabbi Ovadia Yosef is the former Sephardic chief rabbi of Israel and the current spiritual leader of the Shas political party in Israel's parliament. He has kicked up a storm in Israel over remakes he made in a Saturday sermon which were broadcast on Monday.

The implication of the Rabbi's comments were quite stunning. Firstly that by rebellion against the Talmud the secular Jews of Israel were a reason for their own death and defeat. Secondly that by inference God aids the enemies of Israel namely the Arab terrorists by not protecting secular Jewish Israeli soldiers:

"Shas party spiritual leader Rabbi Ovadia Yosef, a former Sephardi chief rabbi of Israel, told followers in remarks broadcast on Monday that Israel Defense Forces soldiers were killed in combat because they did not observe Jewish religious laws.

"Is it any wonder if, heaven forbid, soldiers are killed in a war?" Rabbi Yosef said during his weekly Saturday night sermon.

"They don't observe the Sabbath, they don't observe [the laws of] the Torah, they don't pray, they don't put on phylacteries every day. Is it any wonder that they're killed? It's no wonder. May the Almighty have mercy on them and bring them back to religion.

Israeli media accounts of the sermon also quoted Rabbi Yosef as saying that when soldiers "believe and pray, God helps them during the war" and that these troops "don't get killed."

The comments sparked wide criticism. Public Security Minister Avi Dichter said that he was "pained by the statements."

"Casualties to civilians and soldiers make no distinction between those who are more exacting [in their religious observance] and those who are less."

David Einhorn, father of a soldier killed in the Second Lebanon War a year ago, strongly criticized the rabbi for his comments. Einhorn said his son was killed just before he was to put on phylacteries for prayer. " (Source: Haaretz)

I personally do not subscribe to the stereo-typical view of all Americans being stupid and ill informed but I could not over look this Live Leak video of Miss South Carolina and her inability to answer a simple question.

By the way she does fit all the stereo types in that she is American, female, blonde and not the most articulate female in the world.

A far less chivalrous person than I might call her a "blonde bimbo" but I could never venture such nasty statement about anyone:

I would like to take this opportunity to present to the readers of this weblog the latest editions to my Blogroll.

Both new weblogs are from an Arab perspective. The first one is authored by Mahmood al-Yousif a Bahraini and the second is authored by Nouri an Algerian living in the west.

Nouri describes his weblog as such:

"... is a blog whose purpose is to allow me to express myself and to provide a liberal look at Algerian, and Euro-Maghrebi/Middle Eastern affairs, as well as American, Algerian and European foreign policy. In addition, with this blog I seek to explore various theories of history and politics and how they relate to one another. Issues of nationalism, identity, history, religion, and the like as the fit into the previously mentioned contexts are intended to be the primary focus."

Mahmood describes himself as such:

"...I try to dispel the image that Muslims and Arabs suffer from - mostly by our own doing I have to say - in the rest of the world. I am no missionary and don’t want to be. I run several internet websites that are geared to do just that, create a better understanding that we’re not all nuts hell-bent on world destruction.

I hope that I will be judged that I made a small difference."

I am sure you will find both weblogs to be well written and are not only enjoyable but also informative.

So for the time being I leave you with:

Bill Keller is a Christian televangelist with a particular hatred for Islam. Until very recently he used to broadcast a show in the Tampa Bay area on WTOG-TV a CBS owned station.

In the show that was broadcast nightly at 01.00 Bill Keller made Islam and its founder a particular target of academic critique:

"A Christian televangelist who harshly criticizes Islam and other religions said Friday that his late-night program is being pulled off the air because of pressure from a Muslim group.

Earlier this month, officials from the Council on American Islamic Relations wrote a letter to the TV station's owners asking for an investigation of the show it broadcasts, "Live Prayer with Bill Keller."

In a May 2 broadcast, the televangelist said Islam was a "1,400-year-old lie from the pits of hell" and called the Prophet Mohammed a "murdering pedophile." He also called the Koran a "book of fables and a book of lies."

Council officials asked for equal air time for Florida Muslims to counter Keller's comments, but never got the chance.

The hourlong show, which airs nightly at 1 a.m., is broadcast on WTOG-TV, a CBS-owned station that airs the CW network locally. WTOG station manager Laura Caruso said the decision to end Keller's contract was a programming one, made by station executives and the televangelist.....

....Keller said his "Bible-based" message hasn't changed in the five years the program has aired.

"(CAIR) intimidated the folks in New York, and the folks in New York caved in," Keller said.

Keller said he is starting a new morning TV show on another Tampa Bay area station that will debut Sept. 3." (Source:Ocala)

For all those who wish to see the type of comments that Bill Keller made here they are for you from Live Leak:

As a supporter of freedom of expression I cannot support this decision to pull Bill Keller from his show it smacks of the worst type of censorship.

Bill Keller should be allowed to express himself freely even if his words incite other less astute than him to commit acts of violence. Having said that I would not like to be in his shoes if Islam and the Qur'an that he derides so much are really the truth.

In this Liveleak video we see a report from the Israeli Haaretz newspaper and Channel 10. The segment focuses on attempts by a Jewish Rabbi and evangelical Christians in America to raise funds for their organisation "The International Fellowship of Christians and Jews."

The funds are all collected in the name of suffering Jews in Israel. It appears videos that the organisation has produced to help in gathering donations may be not be showing the reality of life in Israel to their American donors.

I think the euphemism that is used in today's political parlance is "spin" or in plain old English trying to deceive and misrepresent:

Paul Green is an Australian, a Christian pastor and a New South Wales senatorial candidate for the Christian Democratic party.

He is recently been in the news after calling for a moratorium on any further migration of Muslims to Australia. In the process of making his case for the ban he likened the control of Muslim migration to the control of the lethal avian flu virus:

" A New South Wales Senate candidate for the Christian Democratic Party (CDP) has compared controlling Muslim immigration in Australia to stopping the spread of bird flu.

The Christian Democrats are pushing for a halt to Muslim immigration because there has been no serious study of the effects of Muslims on Australia.

They say the 10-year measure would give some breathing space to assess the situation.

The party today officially introduced pastor Paul Green as its number-one candidate for the Senate at a media conference in Sydney.

Mr Green says he believes Australian people are very concerned about Muslim immigration and would support an immediate moratorium.

"If there was bird flu coming from a people's groups across the nation, would we not stop to assess the risk management of what it means to Australia and then assess the factors, and say, 'Is it safe to continue that or withhold it until it is dealt with?'" he said.

"We are saying there's cracks in the foundation.

"We need to address them. We need not rush it because we could be making a bad decision."

Mr Green is urging the Federal Government to conduct a social impact study on the effects of Muslim immigration.

"It's much easier to do that with 300,000 Muslims than it would be with 3 million," he said.

"Let's take a breather and give the Australian people an opportunity to say, 'How do we want to work this?" (Source: ABC News)

Can one really expect anything more from a people who until 1967 considered Aborigines not to be humans and classified them in law as native wildlife ?

After reading the news report on Pauline Hanson and this chap it looks like Australia will have to come of my list of places to emigrate. Oh dear and I was so looking forward to living there, well maybe not.

This is very good news from the Netherlands were the Anne Frank Foundation produces its yearly Racism and Extremism Monitor.

In a region where there are no fundamental rights to religious freedom nor democracy the state of Israel stands out as a beacon of light to the nations of the Middle East. An example that many a Muslim and Arab nation would do well to follow.

As a Muslim who supports the idea of Israel and greater Israel I found the following news report from the Jerusalem Post rather disturbing.

Evangelical Pastor Ron Cantrell and his wife have been living in Israel for nearly 20 years. They are staunch supports of the right of the Jewish people to live in their own homeland
just as I am . But it seems that they have encountered some problems with the Israeli state who now wants them deported. Their crime was they were suspected of proselytizing to Jews:

"An American evangelical pastor and his wife who have been living in Israel for nearly two decades have been ordered to leave the country within two weeks, after their request for permanent residency was turned down, officials said on Thursday.

Ron Cantrell, 59, and his wife Carol, 54, have run a small Jerusalem-based ministry, Shalom Shalom Jerusalem, for the past four years. Cantrell previously worked for Bridges for Peace, an evangelical organization, for 14 years.

Two of the couple's children have married Israelis and have Israeli ID cards.

Interior Ministry officials said the decision was made following suspicions that Cantrell was involved in missionary work. The pastor categorically denied the allegations as baseless....

...The issue underscored the delicate balancing act evangelical Christian supporters of Israel face, between proselytizing, which is banned in Israel, and their fundamental belief that the return of the Jews to the Holy Land was foretold in the Scriptures and heralds the return of the messiah." (Source: Jerusalem Post)

Surely in a democratic and free country the fundamental right to proselytize to a religion should be allowed especially one so fundamentally true as Christianity.

After reading this article it seems that the Middle East has a long way to go before religious freedoms are protected and that includes even in the most democratic and western looking nation in the region.

Patrick Syring is a career American diplomat and until very recently was working at the United States State Department.

Patrick Syring has recently taken retirement but unfortunately for him he has also been indicted by a federal court on charges of sending threatening communications and violating civil rights laws. Mr. Syring about a year ago sent messages to the Arab American Institute at the height of the Israeli Lebanon war of 2006:

"A career U.S. diplomat indicted this week for sending threatening messages to an Arab political organization has retired from the foreign service, the State Department said Thursday.

Patrick Syring retired last month, about a year after he allegedly left racist and intimidating phone and e-mail messages with the Arab American Institute, but before his Wednesday indictment on federal charges of threatening and violating civil rights laws, spokesman Sean McCormack said.

"Mr. Syring has chosen to retire from the State Department," McCormack told reporters. He declined to comment on the specifics of the matter, citing privacy concerns, but stressed that Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice would not tolerate the behavior in which Syring is alleged to have engaged."(Source: CBS News)

"Syring is alleged to have made the comments in a series of e-mails and voice mails to officials the Arab American Institute, including its president James Zogby, when Israel was at war with Lebanese Hezbollah guerrillas in July 2006.

"The only good Lebanese is a dead Lebanese. The only good Arab is a dead Arab. Long live the IDF. Death to Lebanon and death to the Arabs," Syring said in a voice mail recorded at the institute on July 17, 2006.

IDF stands for Israel Defense Forces - the Israeli military.

"F*** the Arabs and F*** James Zogby and his wicked Hizbollah brothers. They will burn in hellfire on this earth and in the hereafter," he wrote in an e-mail to Zogby and another institute employee on the same day.

The voice mails and e-mails, which were sent from a personal e-mail address, were quoted in the indictment.

Syring served as a US diplomat in the Middle East and most recently worked in Human Resources at the State Department." (Source: Television New Zealand)

I suppose in keeping with the former diplomat's sentiments we must all approve of the image above for surely irrespective of age "the only good Arab is a dead Arab."

American singer Gwen Stefani is planning a tour of Asian cities which will include Bangkok, Hong Kong and Kuala Lumpur.

Gwen Stefani's Malaysian leg of the tour has kicked up quite a stir with a Muslim students association in Kuala Lumpur protesting against the singer. The protesters believe that Gwen Stefani's performances promoted nudity and debauchery.

As a result of the protests Gwen Stefani has agreed to "temper" her wardrobe while peforming in the Malaysian capital:

"US pop diva Gwen Stefani has agreed to wear traditional costumes in her Malaysian concert next week after conservative Muslim youths protested her skin-baring act, sponsors of the show said Tuesday.

The 10,000-strong National Union of Malaysian Muslim Students has vehemently protested the August 21 show, which is part of Stefani's "Sweet Escape" tour, because of her "indecent dressing and obscenity."

Threats of further protests were averted, however, after the platinum blonde star agreed to cover up, said Maxis Communications, the parent company for the show's main sponsor Hotlink.

"The objections were to her raunchy performances and outfits," Lai Shu Wei, a senior marketing manager with Maxis, told AFP.

"But Stefani's show here will be very special as she will wear Malaysian themed costumes and at the same time show all fans that she can perform a great show without the sexy outfits which she is famous for."

Stefani, whose music videos often show her in seductive outfits, had been briefed in advance on the proper dress code, Lai said.

"All foreign artists need to understand our culture... as for Malaysians, we also need to have an open mind on such matters," he said." (Source: Showbiz And Style)

I am sure that no good can come from this cow towing to Islamofascists in their own countries.

Controversial former fish & chip shop owner and Australian politician Pauline Hanson is planning a return to politics and this time she has made it quite clear that as she sees it "disease spreading immigrants" and Muzzies should be the the issues of most concern to Australians:

"RIGHT-wing firebrand Pauline Hanson says she will run on similar policies to those that won her international notoriety a decade ago when she vies for a Queensland Senate seat at the upcoming election.

The main difference will be that this time the former fish and chip shop owner, who claims credit for forcing the Howard Government to adopt a harder line on immigration controls, will target Muslims.

"We need to have a look at our immigration levels and I'd like to have a look at putting a moratorium on any more Muslims coming into Australia," she said today....

....The 53-year-old populist politician today said her policies had not changed since her days as the independent MP for Queensland electorate of Oxley.

Ms Hanson won Oxley at the 1996 election after being expelled from the Liberal Party because of her explosive views on immigration.

Her maiden speech warning against Asian immigration to the House of Representatives in September 1996 raised hackles in Asia and caused a sensation around the world.

She went on to launch the anti-immigration One Nation party that eventually foundered amid bitter infighting, but not before it won a big tally of seats at the Queensland state election. Then she lost her own seat at the next federal election.
"Most definitely, nothing's changed," Ms Hanson said to ABC Radio today.

"I think that we need to look at getting out of the 1951 convention of refugees, and not being forced into taking refugees in this country that bring in diseases, who are incompatible with our lifestyle." (Source: Herald Sun)

Personally I do not know why any Muslim would want to emigrate to country where Pauline Hanson was elected to public office. Moreover a country where European immigrants historically treated the indigenous population with such high levels of racism and violence.

For more on the type of immigrant that Pauline Hanson would allow into Australia click on the following link :
