As strange as the title sounds it appears to be true.

Islamonline.net reports that Coptic Christians are proud of the actions of Lebanese Shiite group Hezbollah. Not only that but they are collecting charity inorder to send to the Lebanese people:

"Orthodox Bishop Abram Girgis said it is a "duty" on both Muslims and Christians to support all resistance groups whether in Lebanon, Palestine or Iraq."Resistance is a legitimate act," he stressed."

"We started raising funds to send an aid convoy in the name of all Egyptian Copts to our brothers and sisters in Lebanon," Bishop Rafiq Gris, the spokesman for the Egyptian Catholic Church, told IslamOnline.net Monday, July 31."

A very strange story indeed. It appears that the Middle East is a stranger place than most think. I suppose it reminds one of the line sometimes reality is stranger than fiction.

While this blog in no way supports nor condones acts of violence I thought that this article just shows what a muddle the Middle East really is.

The current "difficulties" between Israel and Lebanon continue. A lot of blood is being split on both sides. At a time like this one questions what are the origins to the Jewish peoples claim to the land of Israel?

The Biblical claim to the land is founded upon Genesis 15 verses 18-21:

"In the same day the Lord made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates:

The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites,

And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims,

And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites."

The claim of the Jewish people to the land of Israel has persisted for many thousands of years. They believe and with them many Zionist Christians that the land has been given to the descendants of Abraham for eternity. If we look closely at the tribes and areas mentioned in the Biblical verse we find that an area much greater than modern day Israel is mentioned. Infact if the covenant between Abraham and God were to be enforced today the map of the Middle East would look like the above.

The problem that I have with this subject is three fold:

(i) Muslims are being told that Islam/Qur'an takes humanity back to the Dark Ages. That Muslims must reform their religion to make it more palatable for co-existence in the modern world. However when it comes to the question about the Jewish peoples claim to land of Palestine the world is expected to accept claims that are written in a book many thousands of years before the Qur'an.

This brings me to a very important point how can we as humans dictate policy and determine strategic interests in today's world or the recent past based upon a verse written by an unknown author from an oral tradition during/after the Jewish exile to Babylon thousands of years ago?

(ii) The second point that I wish to make is that what happens if one does not accept the Bible as the authoritative "Word of God" or as a yardstick by which to determine foreign policy. How can the circle be squared ? For instance I may pull a verse out from some religious book written 7000 years ago and from where I construe that the land that the White House or 10 Downing Street or Champs De Lycee lie upon was bequeathed to me as a covenant 7000 years ago. What would be the response of the authorities to such claims ? For a surety I would be laughed off the face of the earth, so why should we accept Israel's claim to the land of Palestine ?

(iii) As can be seen from the Bible the verse is emphatic as to the borders to the land that God bequeathed to the descendants of Abraham. We see today that Israel has given up land that God promised to her thousands of years ago.

I personally believe that if the world is going to accept the right of Israel to the land of Palestine than it must also facilitate that the state of Israel should encompass all of "Greater Israel" meaning Egypt, Iraq, Jordan, Syria and Lebanon. Under the logic of the Biblical text this is the only fair resolution to the problems in the Middle East and one that will gain the pleasure of the author/authors of the Bible.

To explore this question I present a debate that took place in Stockholm, Sweden between Ahmed Deedat and Christian Pastor Sojberg.

The recording of the debate is in 3 parts and all three are here for you to view. By the way the recording is from sometime in the 1990's so the quality is not upto digital standards having said that the picture is visible and the sound audible. Anyway enough of me....

22nd July witnessed the 60 year anniversary of the bombing of the King David hotel in Jerusalem. The attack accounted for the deaths of 91 people. A plaque and 2 day seminar including speeches by those involved in the attack took place in Jerusalem recently.

Former Israeli Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu attended the commeration and is reported by The Times of London to have said:

"Its very important to make the distinction between terror groups and freedom fighters, and between terror action and legitimate military action"

The commemoration of the attack has caused anger amongst Britain's diplomatic representatives in Israel. The British Ambassador in Tel Aviv and the British Consul-General in Jerusalem have written to the Jerusalem municipality voicing their condemnation:

"We do not think that it is right for an act of terrorism, which led to the loss of many lives, to be commemorated."

The following is a link to a British perspective and account of the bombing.

Below is a video taken in the aftermath of the bombing:

Hijab Ban France Schools

I am sure that you will all remember the ban on religious symbols in state schools including the Muslim hijab that the French secular state passed into in law in 2004. It seems that the fruits of those actions are coming to light now. The ban caused Muslims in France to open their own schools.

Islamonline.net reports that a group of hijab clad students in France's first and sole Muslim secondary school have topped the list of exam results:

"Of the 20 alumni, fifteen male and female students have succeeded, he said, adding that a majority of 12 hijab-donned students had scored excellent remarks."

I think that acts such as banning the hijab in school does not help the endeavor to integrate Muslims into society.

The verdict on the move that the French state took in 2004 is still out. Has it helped in integration or aided in isolation and radicalisation of Muslims in France time will only tell.

Pope, kissing, Koran, Quran, Qur'an
The position of the Pope is unquestioned by millions of Catholic Christians the world over. He is His Holiness the Pope, Bishop of Rome, Vicar of Christ, Successor to Saint Peter the Prince of Apostles, Supreme Pontiff of the Universal Church, Primate of Italy, Archbishop and Metropolitan of the Roman Province, Sovereign of the State of the Vatican City, Servant of the Servants of God, Vicar of the Apostolic See, The Holy See, Vicar of Peter and Patriarch of the West.

Firstly as being God's representative on Earth Pope John Paul II the question must be asked as to why is he kissing, showing respect and love for the Qur'an a book that was "written by a murdering, camel thief, bandit, rapist and Satan worshipper." The same Qur'an that is a practical manual for the murder of all infidels, the enslavement of anyone else who happens to survive and incitement to murder through promises of virgins in heaven. Surely as God's representative on Earth the Pope would have know all this. How could he then fall for this murderous book ?

Secondly why is the Catholic Church in the process of beatification for this man who is being called Pope John Paul the Great only the fourth Pope in history to be given this title knowing full well that he made much a large blunder by kissing the Qur'an?

 British, Mandate, Palestine
Recent developments between Israel and Lebanon have brought to the mind of many the question of terrorism and the Middle East. I have been thinking about the topic for the last couple days from a historical perspective.

Inorder to discuss today's topic an introductory synoptic history is required:

(i) At the turn of the 1900's much of the modern day Middle East was a part of the Turkish Ottoman Empire.

(ii) The British through intelligence officers like Lawrence of Arabia had been inciting the local Arab tribes to wage war against the Ottomans. This resulted in the Arab Revolt of 1916-1918 which lead to Britain administering Palestine and Syria.

(iii) On 2nd November 1917 the British Foreign Secretary Arthur Balfour sent a letter through Lord Rothschild to the Zionist Federation stating that the British government supported plans for a Jewish home land in Palestine.

(iv) With the defeat of the Axis powers (Germany and Turkey) during World War I the League of Nations (a forerunner to the United Nations) was formed in Versailles 1919 to establish peace and to "distribute the spoils of war".

(v) In 1922 the League of Nations passed the Palestine Mandate giving administrative powers over modern day Israel, the West Bank, Gaza and Jordan to Britain.

(vi) British Mandate Palestine ended with the establishment of the state of Israel on 14th May 1948.

Moving onto the focus of today's post: The Lehi Group or as they were named by the British authorities the Stern Gang.

The Encyclopedia Britannica defines terrorism as such : "the systematic use of violence to create a general climate of fear in a population and thereby to bring about a particular political objective."

The Lehi Group/Stern Gang was created by Avraham Stern who was considered a terrorist by the British authorities and shot dead in 1942. After his death the group was reformed by Israel Eldad, Natan Yellin-Mor and Yitzhak Shamir who would later on become Prime Minister of Israel.

The main objective of the Lehi Group/Stern Gang was the eviction of the British from Palestine, the unrestricted flow of Jewish migrants into Palestine and the establishment of the state of Israel. The method that the organization used to further these aims was terror.

The Lehi Group in an article entitled "Terror" for its underground publication He Khazit comments about using terror as a method for political change :

"
Neither Jewish morality nor Jewish tradition can negate the use of terror as a means of battle."

"
It demonstrates, in clear language, to those who listen throughout the world and to our despondent brothers outside the gates of this country of our battle against the true terrorist who hides behind his piles of papers and the laws he has legislated."

"...
terror is part of our political battle under present conditions and its role is large and great"

This ideology of terror gave birth to a range of criminal activity that saw the Lehi group murder British soldiers, policeman, politicians, attack oil refineries, bridges, railroads, extorsion and bank robbery.

The actions of the Lehi group included the murder of Lord Moyne the highest ranking British representative to the region in November 1944. As well as the murder of United Nations mediator Count Folke Bernadotte in Jerusalem in September 1948.

The Lehi Group was also involved with the Irgun which was headed by Menachem Begin who later on became Prime Minister of Israel in the now infamous massacre at Dier Yassin where over 100 men, women and children were killed on 9th April 1948.

However one of the more chilling aspects to the Lehi groups history was their apparent support for Nazi Germany during the second World War. In both 1940 and 1941 the Lehi group tried to establish contact offering support to the Nazi's against the British in return for help in expelling the British from Palestine and help in evacuating Jews from Europe to Palestine. Letters were sent by Lehi representatives to Nazi officials in Beirut trying to establish a common cause. However there is no official confirmation that the Nazis replied to these overtures.

The Lehi Group was formally dissolved and integrated into the Israeli Defense Force on 31st May 1948.

Ibn Jibreen, Hezbollah

Ynetnews.com reports that Saudi Islamic scholar Sheikh Abdullah Ibn Jibreen has given his latest fatwa (the Arabic for religious edict and not as some believe death sentence) regarding the Lebanese group Hezbollah.

I was able to get a copy of Ibn Jibreen's fatwa from an Arabic website. It is reproduced here in English from a translation that I did:

The questioner asks the Sheikh:

Is it permissible to support (what is called) the Shiite party of God (Hezbollah)?
Is it permissible to rally under their leadership?
Is it permissible to supplicate (to God) for their assistance and establishment ?
What is your advice to those from the Sunnis who have been deceived by them?

The Sheikh replies:

It is not permissible to aide this Shiite group. It also not permissible to rally beneath their leadership. It is also not permissible to supplicate for them assistance and establishment.

My advice to the Sunnis is to disavow them and to forsake those that support them. And that (the Sunnis) should make clear the (Shiites) hostility to Islam and the Muslims and to their harm towards the Sunnis in the past and the present.

The Shiites have always harbored enmity towards the Sunnis. They try to the best of their ability to disgrace, refute and deceive the Sunnis.

If all of the above is true then those that support them (Hezbollah) fall into the same (Islamic ruling) as them. Ibn - Jibreen then quotes a verse from the Qur'an.

End of the edict.

Koran, Qur'an, Burning
The Clarion Ledger from the American state of Mississippi reports that Operation Save America a group of anti- arbortionists have torn and burned a copy of the Qur'an. The "incident" occurred on Tuesday night outside the Pearl Church in the state capital of Jackson:

"...burned the Quran and other items Tuesday evening in the parking lot outside Making Jesus Real Church in Pearl, McEwen said. Police confirmed the burning."

I am sure that if those who burned the Qur'an were asked as to the reasons why did you do it one of the reasons would be because Islam is hateful and intolerant.

To find intolerance it appears that one does not have to go all the way to Islam and Muslims it is alive and well amongst Christians who claim to have "the moral high ground".

While surfing the net a couple of days a go I came across an article on www.chronwatch.com called "Can there be peace with Islam?" The author is an American lady by the name of Barbara J. Stock.

After reading through the article I decided to visit her blog, for those that are interested just Google her name and I am sure that you will be lead there. If you have any difficulty the name of the blog contains the words Republican and Proud.

Anyway I shall not reproduce the entire article here however for the sake of balance and establishing a modicum of truth in answering the articles main question small portions shall be reproduced here.

Moving onto Mrs/Miss/Ms Stock's "well researched" thoughts, opinions, observations and religious verdicts:

(i)
The problem in Iraq is Islam. Islam, the self proclaimed "religion" of peace and love cannot stop killing its own people in the name of Islam and Allah.

I am not a expert on the current situation in Iraq therefore I shall leave comment on this matter to those that are more qualified than me. However I would like to ask the question where does Barbara Stock get her assertion that Islam is a self proclaimed religion of peace and love? As far as I remember there is no definition in the Qur'an to say that the word Islam means peace or love. Maybe Barbara Stock has a different Qur'an to mine.

For the benefit of clearing this misnomer up I shall now quote from an Arabic/English dictionary. The dictionary in question is called The Hans Wehr Dictionary of Modern written Arabic and is edited by J.M Cowan it states thus about the word Islam:

"Submission, resignation reconciliation (to the will of God)".

As is evident from the dictionary definition above there is no mention of peace nor love.

(ii)
Muslims are killing Muslims and there isn't an American soldier in sight to blame. While American forces take great care not to violate any religious law by even entering a mosque, Muslims blow up mosques and kill fellow Muslims who are praying to Allah, and no one within the so-called "moderate Muslim" ranks utters a peep of condemnation.

Barbara Stock makes a very important point about coalition forces not entering mosques in Iraq. Unfortunately it appears that not everyone knows about this rule:

As for the fact that no one from the "moderate Muslims" condemns violence in the name of Islam, well just go through this blog and you will find plenty of examples.

(iii)
Middle East is now controlled by Islam

That must come as a surprise to all those administrations in the Middle East. I do not think they will be too happy about being labeled as Islamic fundamentalists.

(iv) Islamic leaders put forth the belief that Israeli land is Muslim land. Islamic teachers believe that Muslims were there first. This is incorrect, since Judaism has been in the Middle East for at least 4,000 years and Islam only about 1,300 years

I cannot believe that anyone with half a brain cell can come up with such a blatant lie. Which Islamic teacher ? Which verse from the Qur'an, narration from the Prophetic tradition or quotation from an Islamic sage is given as proof that Muslims were in Palestine before the Jews ? Maybe there are none and the author has fabricated the statement.

(v)
For the most part, Christianity has been purged from the Middle East. While some countries have a small minority of Christians, they are persecuted and tormented and in many cases, they are not even allowed to be full citizens of the country of their birth because they are not Muslim.

Let us have a look at the persecuted Christian minority who are not allowed to be full citizens of the country of their birth. We shall take Egypt as an example.

Egypt is the most populous country in the Arab world. Its Christian population makes up 6% of its 74.9 million inhabitants. Here are examples of the persecuted minority who are tormented in many ways:

Boutrous Ghali : Egyptian Christian former Prime Minister of Egypt.

Boutrous Boutrous Ghali : Egyptian Christian and former Minister for Foreign Affairs Secretary and former General of the United Nations.

Yousef Boutrous Ghali: Egyptian Christian and present Minister of Finance.

Kamal Ramiz Stino: Egyptian Christian and former Vice Prime Minister.

A list of Rich influential Christians in the Arab world can be found by clicking the link.

It appears that Barbara J. Stock is not interested in placing before the reader any facts rather she is more interested in here-say and slurs.

In my humble opinion the cause of "world peace" is not advanced by people like Barbara J. Stock.

Bible, Jews, Anti-Semetism

In this post we shall be taking a look at the question of anti-semitism in the Bible.

"The Jews are evil"
"The Jews are corrupt".
"The Jews are cursed"
"The Jews are a sinful nation"
"The Jews are a brood of evil"

These are not my words but rather the words of the Bible. Much is written about anti-semitism in the Qur'an so as a matter of balance I thought in this post we will have a look at what the Bible has to say about the Jewish people and its leaders:

(1) In this first quote let us have a look at an example from the Bible. Omri a king of Israel is mentioned thus in 1 Kings 16 verse 25:

"But Omri did evil in the eyes of the LORD and sinned more than all those before him."

(2) The Prophet Moses says about the Jews the following from Deuteronomy 31 verse 29:

"For I know that after my death you are sure to become utterly corrupt and to turn from the way I have commanded you. In days to come, disaster will fall upon you because you will do evil in the sight of the LORD and provoke him to anger by what your hands have made."

(3) The following is a quote taken from the Bible and relates to a vision and the Jewish Prophet Isaiah regarding the house of Israel, Isaiah 1

"Hear, O heavens! Listen, O earth!
For the LORD has spoken:
"I reared children and brought them up,
but they have rebelled against me.

The ox knows his master,
the donkey his owner's manger,
but Israel does not know,
my people do not understand."

Ah, sinful nation,
a people loaded with guilt,
a brood of evildoers,
children given to corruption!
They have forsaken the LORD;
they have spurned the Holy One of Israel
and turned their backs on him.

I am sure for those that are interested and able to research more anti-semitism can be found in the Bible. In all fairness if we are going to hold the Qur'an upto 21st century norms about racism and prejudice then I think that it is only fair that we do the same to the Bible.

Islam, Muslims, Mosque, Christians
Muslims the world over are "famous" or should I say notorious for being intolerant and hateful of people from religions other than Islam. However it appears that Islam or being a Muslim is not a pre-requisite for being intolerant and hateful.

News comes from "TheLedger.Com" regarding moves in Pomano Beach to build a new mosque and opposition from local Christians and Jews to the construction.

One of the main opponents to the construction of the mosque is Rev O'Neal Dozier a former NFL player and law degree holder. He is dead against the idea that a mosque should be built anywhere near him or his congregation.

As a unbiased reader not knowing the situation in Pomano Beach it can be safely assumed that Rev. O'Neal Dozier and his supporters from both the "tolerant" Christian and Jewish faiths may have a problem with the new construction because of the following reasons:

(a) Lack of parking in the area.
(b) "Noise pollution" from the Muslim call to prayer.
(c) Lack of space for the intended mosque site.
(d) Traffic problems especially on Friday the "Muslim holiday" etc.

There are many others I suppose from a civic responsibility angle that a man with a law degree could have thought of as justification for his rejection of the proposed mosque.

Let us now have a look at the actual "reasons" as to why Rev. O'Neal Dozier ( a Christian man of God) and a person who holds a law degree came up with to justify his opposition to the mosque:

(a) Muslims are dangerous.
(b) Muslims are terrorists.
(c) Islam is evil.
(d) "The Koran says to cut off heads."

I do not think that Rev. O'Neal Dozier-Christian man of Gad and filled with the love of fellow man - is setting us savage, intolerant, infidel labeling Muslim murderers a very good example by this statements.

I suppose it is a case of do as I say and not as I do.

Do you think that I am right to refuse to pay for a service that is expensive and most of the time unavailable ?

Please accept my apologies as I have not been able to update this blog. I hope that they can do something with the fault so as to allow me to be able to get back to some type of blogging rythem

"Instead of our disapprobation, Muhammad and most Muslims deserve our gratitude for their enormous contributions made to our planet-wide civilization. It's hard to understand how any enlightened and fair-minded person can hold prejudice, bigotry and hate for Muslims in his or her heart without diminishing that self-same heart. "

These are not my words but rather the words of Judi Panneta who features on www.billingsgazette.com.

In the article entitled "Faith & Values: Lets stop demeaning of Islam". The author makes a plea to the west to reassess its relationship to Islam and Muslims. For some this very thought is unbearable. However while many will not agree with her assumptions and views they come at a time when Muslims and the West need to find a way in which to relate to each other and maybe this is a starting place.

Jesus, Bible, Sword, Israel
As Muslims we are ordered to believe in and love Jesus by not only our divinely revealed book the Qur'an but also by many statements of the Prophet of Islam. Therefore I do not wish that this post be seen in anyway an attack on the person or teachings of Jesus son of Mary. This post however is an attempt to foster debate regarding the teachings of the Christian Church both in ancient and modern times.

Islam teaches its followers that Jesus the son of Mary was born of immaculate conception and was given the ability to perform miracles in the name of God inorder to call the errant Children of Israel back to the laws of the Torah. As Muslims we do not believe that the message of Jesus was intended for the whole of mankind but rather just for the house of Israel. We also like Christians believe in the second coming of Jesus however that is not the focus of this current post.

Do the Bible and Jesus support this Islamic assertion that the message of Jesus was only intended for the house of Israel ?

Lets take a look at Matthew 10.

After gathering his disciples Jesus sends them out to promulgate his message with these words according to the Bible:

"...commanded them, saying, Go not into the way of the Gentiles, and into any city of the Samaritans enter ye not:

But go rather to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.

And as ye go, preach, saying, The kingdom of heaven is at hand."

It appears that this tract from the New Testament is emphatic in its meaning. A deliberate command to his disciples from Jesus not to preach to the gentiles and that his message is intended only for the house of Israel.
How can Christians "square" this very emphatic circle ?

The second point that I wish to cover in this post is relates to violence, peace and incitement to murder.

It is often quoted by many who follow the Bible that Islam is a religion of war, killing and murder. Whereas Christianity in comparison is a religion of peace and love. I thought that we would look in this post as to what Jesus has to say about this topic in his own words as recorded by the New Testament. Did he come to spread peace as many Christians claim or did he come with a sword and all that entails ?

We again go to Matthew 10 however this time to verse 34:

"Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword."

Another very emphatic statement from Jesus as recorded by the New Testament. It does not leave much room for doubt as to its meaning and its intended effects. It appears that this is another very emphatic circle for the Christians to "square" for us.

Jews, Islam, Conversion, Israel

Religious tolerance, the right to worship who and how without hindernace is a right that is enshrined in all western and democratic nations.

In this post I wish to have a look at religious tolerance and the question of conversion. In particular this post will deal with the role of conversion to Islam in modern day democratic western valued Israel.

Ynetnews.com reports that more Jews are converting to Islam than ever before. The "massive" total is now estimated to reach 70 people for the whole of this year. It appears that 70 is such a large total that it requires a whole article.

How are conversion of Jews to Islam treated in "western valued" democratic Israel ?

Ynetnews.com has the answer. The quote below is the experience of one Jewish convert to Islam. The convert relates the loving, accepting tone and attitude that Israeli officialdom showed towards his/her apostasy from Judaism:

"In the past, the Religious Affairs and Interior Ministries made it very difficult for Jews to convert to Islam. They are giving me the runaround, sending me back and forth from office to office. They made me see a psychiatrist, to make sure I wasnt brainwashed. They did everything so that I would despair and return to Judaism, one convert related."

See a psychiatrist ? Why should a democratic state interfere in the religion of one of its citizens ?

Does not sound very tolerant to me but may be I am mistaken.
